Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of Delhi was registered with Registrar of Societies on 17th March 2010 for taking up vital issues concerning senior citizens of Delhi with Govt. of India and Govt. of Delhi as the Confederation is only one registered Society across Delhi which is also an umbrella body of 11 lakhs senior citizens across Delhi. Helpage India is a Permanent Adviser. The Confederation is associated with Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, Social Welfare Department and Bhagidari Cell of Delhi Govt., I.C.C.R. and Senior Citizens Cell of Delhi Police. The Confederation is also protecting lonely senior citizens from abuses/humiliations by their own children and others even without taking help from Delhi Police and a good no. of such cases have already been solved by the Confederation. Moreover, the Council is also extending emergency help of all kind and moral support to destitute/lonely senior citizens as and when required.
So far, more than 70 registered Senior Citizens Associations have affiliated with the Confederation. The Confederation held first Conference on 05th February 2011 at NCUI Auditorium, New Delhi in which more than 800 representatives of Senior citizens of Associations of Delhi participated. The Chief Guest was Smt. Sheila Dixit, Chief Minister of Delhi. The Confederation brought to the notice of Chief Guest that Govt. servants are at present retiring at the age of 60 years but Income Tax exemptions are allowed only at the age of 65 years under Income Tax Act 1961. Since Union Budget was to be announced in Parliament in the coming last week of February 2011, Chief Minister was requested to get out demand fulfilled by taking personal efforts with Hon'ble Prime Minister of India and Union Finance Minister, although, this very demand was pending with Govt. of India for the last 10 years.
